Hybrid Academy.org began in 2013 when Hester van Dyk started her career in Mental Health Therapy as a Educologists with a special interest in Neurodiversity and Inclusive Education. At Hybrid, the focus is on Academics, Emotional intelligence and Career Development.

Hester created Hybrid Academy to ensure Inclusive education for students that prefer an alternative to mainstream schooling in

South Africa. With the Regional Office in Mosselbay she frequently travel to holds talks around South Africa to support educators at community learning centres with the aim at creating an awareness for inclusive education and thereby increasing the Matric pass rate in our communities.

Hybrid Academy was founded to bridge the gap between homeschooling and traditional schools, with a bold vision: make inclusive, future-focused education accessible to every child in South Africa.

We believe every child learns differently. That’s why we don’t use a one-size-fits-all model. Our American-based curriculum focuses on:

Critical thinking and creativity

Hybrid Academy moves beyond rote memorization by encouraging learners to question, explore, and innovate. Through open-ended projects, real-world scenarios, and interactive discussions, students learn to solve problems, think independently, and express original ideas. This nurtures agile minds equipped to adapt in a fast-changing world.

Life skills and entrepreneurship

Students engage in practical, hands-on activities that develop communication, teamwork, budgeting, project planning, and digital fluency. Entrepreneurship modules allow learners to build business ideas, manage virtual portfolios, and develop financial literacy—giving them a head start in life and work.

Mental wellness and resilience

Recognizing that academic success is tied to emotional health, Hybrid integrates mental wellness into the curriculum. Learners are supported through stress management tools, mindfulness activities, and access to mentors who emphasize empathy, confidence-building, and coping strategies—preparing them to handle life’s pressures with strength and balance.

Our Commitment:
We are aligned with the BELA Bill’s call for educational reform and offer a viable, affordable, and legally compliant homeschool alternative.
